Who makes a more obnoxious drunk, a man or a woman?

Drinking BuddiesRecreational Whinge:  You may have an opinion on that question…and after going to a comedy club last weekend with some friends, I now have one too.

It was a lovely night – the club offers dinner and a show for a very reasonable rate, and the place was packed.  And we didn’t really care if the comedians were going to be any good or not, as we were with good company in our little group (although good comedy would also have been welcomed…but that’s a blog for another day!).

What we didn’t like, and neither did much of the rest of the room and certainly not the comedians, were the groups of drunken women celebrating as part of Hen’s Parties (Bachelorette Parties for the Americans).  There were four of these loud, raucous groups, with at least one thrown out by security.

Tattooed Fish? You’ve got to be joking, right?

Blaaaach!Recreational Whinge:  I read an article this week about how pet shops in southwest China are offering fish tattooed with patterns and lucky characters intended to bring their owners good fortune and happiness.

Tropical parrot fish are usually used for tattooing, often with the Chinese characters meaning “May your business boom.”  Lasers are used to tattoo the fish.

PeaceRecreational Whinge:  War, what is it good for?  Absolutely nothing!  (There’s a song in there I’m sure…)

I found this website a while back, loved the images on it and thought I’d share it with you.  The particular post is called What Goes Around Comes Around

Do people need to be “bribed” to give?

Silly Customer Service RepRecreational Whinge:  Something has been happening in the past two hours that I need to share and whinge about.

I’ve been astounded by the number of people who have responded to a requst of mine with something along the lines of, “But what will you give me in return?”

To Lie or Not to Lie

Silly Customer Service RepRecreational Whinge:  In case you’re wondering about the “category” chosen here of “May I speak with a human please?”, the category is about anything to do with customer service.  Now that I’ve cleared that up, I need to whinge about a request I received recently from someone who wanted me to lie about the service they provided to me so that their reputation wouldn’t get tarnished.

Victims and their Drama Triangles

Boo HooRecreational Whinge: One thing you’ll probably need to know about me straight up is that when life throws me a sticky situation, I almost always find some way to blog about it, deal with it straight away, etc.  Something happened to me a few nights ago that I’ve been dreading for years.

I bumped into someone that I was hoping I would never see again.  I won’t go into the story here because it’s not fair to the other person, but I will offer that in my opinion, this person is firmly entrenched in “The Drama Triangle” which essentially means in this case that they often view themselves as the “victim” and that others are the “persecutors” and sometimes they try to find a “saviour” who can’t possibly be one and therefore also becomes a “persecutor” allowing the first person to be even more of a “victim.”

If you want to read more about this phenomenon and the various ways it plays out, here’s a useful link from Mental Health Today.
